The building, inaugurated as a cinema and event venue in 1957, houses today, the only museum about GDR micro-history in Northern Germany.

Since October 1999, the exhibition is constantly extended and by now, one can experience the diverse GDR everyday life. There are interesting things to be seen about cinema, wedding, starting school and Jugendweihe (ceremony in which teenagers are given adult social status), holiday and working life, but there is also insight given into photo, television and broadcast technology from 40 years of the GDR.

The building's extension and the great pool of exhibits make it possible to extend the exhibition constantly. By now, the visitor can look back into the children's land and throw inquisitive looks into living, bed and bathroom of the 1970ties and 1980ties.

The GDR Museum in Malchow also recreated a shop.
Shopping might not be possible in our KONSUM any more, but, smiling, you will discover, lots of things.
